Here Comes Aid For Your Palm Tree

CuraPalma telescopic lance with schematic pump

Since the last about 20 years most of the mediteranean palm trees have been destroyed by two invasive insects, the palm moth and the red palm weevil. Thus we at CuraPalma ® designed an innovative, low-risk and lightweight appliance to effortlessly combat these palm killers. The CuraPalma ® telescopic lance was build to eliminate caterpillars from the heart of the palm trees consequently.

But this must absolutely happen in time!

  • adult male red palm weevil (rhynchophorus ferrugineus)
  • Protect palm trees from pests such as palm weevil caterpillars.
  • pupated larva with and without cocoon

Mainly at Phoenix, Washingtonia, Pritchardia but also on many other palm trees.

  • adult female palm moth (paysandisia archon)
  • Protect palm trees from palm moth larvae pests.
  • pupated larva with and without cocoon

Mainly at Trachycarpus, but also Brahea, Chamaerops, Jubaea, Livistona, Phoenix.

First identify the disease to use CuraPalma ® for effective pest control. If your palm tree appears sick e.g. with hanging leaves you have to check for signs of larvae infestation. Search for holes in the leaves or corridors and saw dust at the stalk base or cocoons at the tree. Also case you observe the adult Red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) or Palm moth (Paysandisia archon) in the vincitiy you should act.

Be aware that from such first signs to irreversable destruction of the palm tree you often have less than half a year to combat the threat. Moreover in some areas infected plants must be immediately cut down and completely burned by law. There you need to act in advance of an infestation.

Because of that it is anyway best to treat the palm trees several times a year as a preventative measure.

  • Damage caused by larvae in leaves and stems
  • characteristic holes in leaves
  • palm moth cocoon
  • remains of pupated larva in cocoon
  • Feed channel and sawdust in the stem
  • Rescue possible as long as the central sprout is alive

The heart of the palm at the top of the tree is the larvae’s food source. With CuraPalma ® you particularly treat the infested part of the plant directly. Consequently the active ingredient only reaches exactly where it is needed and the surrounding area is not affected.

This means that living organisms such as nematodes also work as active ingredients with CuraPalma ®. These work optimally when they are applied in liquid form very close to the pests and are not pressurized above 3 bar.
We do not spray the agent to the leaves. Because the juice transport in palm trees works different as in other plants, this is not effective enough. Instead the liquid is poured from above into at least three spots of the palm heart, thus wetting all larvae in the area directly.

Please be aware that we can’t advice for the active agent or insecticide used, as this is dependent on local regulations and your horticultural philosophy. Just directly contact your agricultural and plant protection authorities, trade associations or local retail shops.
